XFLEX HYDRO: Innovative hydropower technologies

At the World Hydropower Congress, participants in the EU-funded energy innovation project XFLEX HYDRO presented the extraordinary advances in digital control and power electronics being piloted by the project.

GE Renewables: Pump storage hydropower and the clean energy transition

This film was premiered at the 2021 World Hydropower Congress and produced by IHA and ITN Productions in collaboration with GE Renewable Energy. Featuring insights from Pascal Radue, CEO of GE Renewable Energy Hydro Solutions, the film explores how investment in pumped storage hydropower is integral to the clean energy transition.


Voith Hydro: Intelligent modernisation of hydropower

This film was premiered at the 2021 World Hydropower Congress and produced by IHA and ITN Productions in collaboration with Voith Hydro. Featuring insights from Chief Operating Officer Dr Tobias Keitel, the film explores how plant modernisation combined with the implementation of digital hydropower solutions makes a hydropower plant futureproof and how this can increase the efficiency of the energy grid as a whole.

Costa Rica: 100% renewable with hydropower

In collaboration with ICE, IHA and ITN Productions produced a film about hydropower in Costa Rica which was premiered at the 2021 World Hydropower Congress.

Featuring interviews with Minister of Environment and Energy, Dr Andrea Meza and CEO of ICE, Irene Cañas Díaz, the film explored the role hydropower plays in delivering responsible and sustainable energy for the entire country.

China Three Gorges Corporation: Helping China to reach its net zero carbon goals

China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) is the world’s biggest investor in hydropower and also has an impressive solar and wind portfolio. It has taken a major step to expand China’s use of renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions with the opening of the Baihetan hydropower plant in June 2021.

Baihetan, in southwest China on the Jinsha River (a tributary of the Yangtze), has 16 generators with a capacity of 1 million kilowatts each. It is expected to be fully online by the end of 2022, and it is estimated that it will reduce carbon emissions by 51.6 million tonnes annually.

This film premiered at the 2021 World Hydropower Congress and was produced by IHA and ITN Productions in collaboration with CTG. Featuring Zhou Mengxia, Deputy Director of Technology Management for Baihetan Project, CTG, it explores the contribution Baihetan will make to transforming China’s energy system.

EDF: Hydropower moving towards a greener future

In collaboration with EDF, IHA and ITN Productions produced a film about Romanche Gavet, which was premiered at the 2021 World Hydropower Congress. The film explores how EDF’s site is regaining the natural beauty of the past, whilst moving towards a greener future.

Sarawak Energy: Hydropower sustainability in action

In collaboration with Sarawak Energy, IHA and ITN Productions produced this film which premiered at the 2021 World Hydropower Congress. Featuring insights from Sharbini Suhaili, Chief Executive Officer at Sarawak Energy, the film explores the steps which Sarawak Energy are taking to supply hydroelectricity and their ambition to become the sustainable battery of Southeast Asia.
