Dadan Kusdiana was born in Sumedang on December 29, 1968. He graduated from the Bogor Agricultural Institute in 1992, majoring in Agricultural Mechanisation. His great interest in bioenergy prompted him to pursue post-graduate education in Energy Science at Kyoto University, Japan. He also acquired a doctoral degree from the same university in the Department of Energy and Environmental Sciences, particularly in Biofuel Process Technology in 2004.

Dadan Kusdiana joined the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in 1992 in the Directorate of Electricity and Energy Utilization. Several positions that have been mandated to him include Director of Bioenergy, Head of the Center for Public Communication of MEMR, Director of the Fund Management Agency for Palm Oil Plantations (BPDPKS), Senior Adviser to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources for Economics and Natural Resources, Head of Research and Development Agency of MEMR and currently serves as Director General of New, Renewable and Energy Conservation (2020-present).

He also actively participates in the Indonesian Biodiesel Forum, being a board member for the Association of Indonesian Bioenergy Experts and the Indonesian Renewable Energy Society.
