Karen is the Chief Operating Officer of SMEC’s business in ASEAN and the Pacific. SMEC is a global infrastructure expert within the transport, water and energy markets, with a deep history in the hydropower sector from its origins as the Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation. SMEC has operated in ASEAN and the Pacific for over 40 years, with key markets in Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Papua New Guinea, as well as operations in many other countries.  

Karen holds a BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering with Architecture and has extensive management experience across the UK, New Zealand, Australia and Asia. In addition to being a member of SMEC’s global executive committee, Karen is also a director on the Board of the SMEC Foundation which provides governance over charitable grants for projects in many developing nations.

Karen currently sits as a Board Member of the International Hydropower Association. She is passionate about promoting the critical role of hydropower in the energy transition and is a strong advocate for marine conservation and economic empowerment.
