Youssef Filali-Meknassi is a Senior Programme Specialist and Deputy Chief of the Groundwater Systems and Settlements Section (GSS) at UNESCO. He joined UNESCO in September 2006 and spent 10 years working for them in Africa. In January 2016 he moved to their Headquarters in Paris and launched the Water Information Network System (WINS).
Before joining UNESCO, Youssef worked as a Research Assistant Professor at the Missouri University of Science and Technology having begun as a Visiting Assistant Professor, gaining promotion due to his substantial contributions to their Environmental Research Centre.
Youssef’s education includes a PhD degree in hydrology from the INRS in partnership with the Polytechnique Montréal. He has also completed two post-doctoral degrees, the first at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia followed by a second at the Missouri University of S&T.
In 2007, Youssef received the Wesley W. Horner Award from the ASCE. He currently has over 40 peer reviewed papers, around 200 reads and 700 citations.
