Speaker biography

Rana Pratap Singh is the Industrial Development Officer in the Department of Energy at UNIDO. He has been working for the Renewable Energy sector, particularly hydropower, since 1992. His work relates to scaling-up renewable energy, reinforcing policy, strengthening institutions, demonstrating projects and building national capacity.

His experience includes various roles at the World Bank, UNDP, UNDO, Asian Development Bank, European Union and International Non-Governmental Organisations. Rana specialises in several aspects of small-scale hydropower namely potential opportunities and challenges within the technical, economic, social and environmental domains. He has experienced how small schemes can become instrumental in the energy sector of a poor country, which can then transform the energy landscape of the country.

He has completed several energy projects, authored manuals, prepared reports and published journal papers. Rana has also received a number of awards; he was honoured with the UNIDO Exemplary excellence award in 2012, followed by the Jean Pierre BRANS award in 2015 for smart decision-making and the Champion for Promoting Organisational Change Award in 2016.
