Speaker biography

Pierre Biedermann is a hydraulics engineer, with expert knowledge of hydropower schemes, particularly their sustainability, governance, and environmental and social performance. He has 25 years international experience in more than 40 countries in Europe, Asia and Africa.

Pierre has also worked for consultancy firms and as an associate director at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in charge of hydropower in the Environment and Sustainability Department. He is passionate about delivering solutions to foster the development of renewable, climate resilient and environmentally friendly power.

As part of running his own consultancy, Pierre advises international financing institutions, private equity funds and developers. He has delivered environmental and social due diligence for over 50 renewable energy schemes which have been mostly hydropower, wind and solar.
