Speaker biography

Olivier Didry has been Chief Executive Officer of Nam Theun 2 Power Company since 2018, based in Laos.

Commissioned in 2010, Nam Theun 2 (1070 MW) is one of the largest and best performing hydro schemes in South East Asia, renowned for its safety and E&S standards. This mandate starts at a time of transition for the project, as it is approaching maturity after almost 10 years of operations, with sustainable and shared benefits for its shareholders, off takers, communities around the site as well as the country as a whole.

Olivier has been in the renewable energy sector for most of his career at Electricité de France. In the last 20 years, he has developed a diverse experience alongside the value chain through his management of the engineering services in dam and river monitoring. As Chief Operating Officer of 2.5GW of hydro capacity in the Alps including pump storage, and then as EDF Offshore Wind Director in the UK, seen by his delivery of the first offshore wind project in the EDF Group (Teesside, 62MW).

In 2014, Olivier became VP for New Projects Development at EDF hydro, contributing to implementing EDF renewable growth strategy with a portfolio of 10 hydro projects worldwide at different stages. Valuing his combined experience in hydro and wind, Olivier has also been involved in several strategic initiatives to foster innovation and value flexibility, storage and hybrid solutions to position hydro power as a key enabler for increased penetration of renewable sources of energy.  

Olivier holds a Grande Ecole Engineering master’s degree from ENSEM in France and an Executive MBA from ESCP Europe.
