Speaker biography

Michel De Vivo, born in Marseille (France), is a mechanical engineer who worked as Operation & Maintenance manager of the EDF dams & hydro-powerplants from the South-East of France.

He accomplished many missions of dams & HPP rehabilitation in Africa and in Middle-East, as in Lebanon for the reconstruction of the country. He was also, at EDF, Director of development for Africa and Middle-East. Since 2006, he is Secretary General of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD), headquartered in Paris. He has served for six years as Governor of the World Water Council.

As a Secretary General of ICOLD, he takes care of ensuring that dam safety continues to be the number one priority of the Organization. Most of the Technical Bulletins published during his tenure are dealing with Dam Safety.
