Speaker biography

Medardo Cadena is the Director of Integration, Access and Energy Security at The Latin America Energy Organisation (OLADE).

Previously, he has served as Undersecretary of Projects, Undersecretary of Planning, Deputy Minister of Energy and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy in the Republic of Ecuador.

Through his functions in Government, Medardo contributed to the transformation of the country’s power generation matrix with the incorporation of more than 2,500 MW of hydroelectric power generation. At present, almost 90% of electric power generation in Ecuador comes from hydroelectric power plants that supply local demand and allow the export of energy to neighbouring countries.

Medardo is an Electrical Engineer and Master in Business Administration as well as a full professor of the National Polytechnic School of Quito, Ecuador.
