Speaker biography

Leslie Chai is the General Manager for System Planning, at the state-owned electric utility and energy development company, Sarawak Energy Berhad in Malaysia. As the System Planner, he oversees the generation and network development plans for Sarawak Energy.

Leslie was part of the team that worked on the Sarawak-West Kalimantan Interconnection project that was commissioned on 20th January 2016. He is currently working on the Sarawak-Sabah Interconnection project expected to come online in 2022.

He has over 25 years of experience working in the power utility industry covering planning, projects, renewables, rural electrification and maintenance.

Leslie is a registered Professional Engineer (PE), a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) as well as a Certified Competent Electrical Engineer (CEE). He holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the University of Bath and a Master of Science (MSc) from Warwick University, both in the UK.
