Speaker biography

Julien Harou is Chair of Water Engineering at the University of Manchester. His group is responsible for contributing globally leading research in water resources planning and management, water-energy systems, and environmental management software.

Julien is research director of the FutureDAMS project funded by Research Councils UK. In addition, he is leading the Natural Environment Research Council’s Water Stewardship Portal project as well as being a coinvestigator of their UMFULA project, which aims to improve climate information for decision making in central and southern Africa.

Julien has a PhD from the University of California Davis in water resources engineering and economics. In 2010 he received a NASA Launch Innovator award for his group’s contributions to water management and software. He is also an Honorary Professor at UCL.
