Speaker biography

Guy Debonnet is Programme Specialist for UNESCO World Heritage Centre. He joined UNESCO World Heritage Centre in 2002 as a specialist for natural heritage and is currently Chief of the Nature, Sustainable Tourism and Outreach Unit.

In his position, he coordinates the work on natural heritage under the 1972 World Heritage Convention and works closely with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as its advisory body for natural heritage. He is the focal point for engagement with the private sector on the commitments made to safeguard World Heritage sites.

From 1989 to 2001, he worked on nature conservation and rural development projects in various African countries. He was also a senior advisor on environment to the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Guy has an MSc in Bioscience Engineering.
